4000 blog comments, and trolley buses return to Karori depot. The two just might be related

A virtual chocolate fish to Anita of Wellington, who at 9.30pm last night posted the 4000th comment since this blog began last December.

For the statistical minded, it took 83 days for the 1000th comment to be posted here, 58 days for the 2000th, 50 days for the 3000th and 56 more days for the 4000th.

Anita was concerned about the lack of trolley buses on the No 3, as have I been for some time. The good news is that as many as nine trolley buses have overnight been allocated to Karori depot, and lots of trolley buses appeared on the 3 today. In place of the usual convoy of diseasel buses, five trolleys were sitting one behind the other waiting to leave the Karori Park terminus when I turned up at 7.30am to catch my bus to work. Does the bus company read this blog?

Trolleys were inexplicably removed from Karori depot last November. Welcome back! Especially for the neighbours of the depot, in a quiet back street, who have had to endure the roar of diesel bus engines firing up at 6am day after week after month.

  • In positive honour of my virtual chocolate fish my Snapper arrived in the mail today :)

In negative honour I caught five buses today, only one was a trolley. Of the diesels one had no snapper and another only had a functioning snapper reader at the front door (the chaos had to be seen to be believed).

I know my odds of trolleys are decreased by living on a diesel only route, but I catch plenty of 3s and buses in town and should be getting a better hit rate.

  • You realise that when they put trolley buses on the number 3 line, they just take them from elsewhere? The number 1 line has had a large in-flux of diesels (it seems) and less trolley buses this week.

This mornings bus Snapper machine for the driver was stuck in Island Bay… so hopefully a cheap ride in!

  • Damn you and your trolleys :-)

The wires in Pirie street came down and blocked the bus tunnel for everyone. Buses stuck on Courtenay place without power…

If only we had more diesel :-)

Actually, if WCL did their job and maintained the overhead network, they wouldn’t come down and there probably would be less interruptions to the power as well. Thank goodness the new trolleys can continue for a while on their batteries.
